Course Log for 02/14-03/27/2002

If I decide to keep a daily log, I'll create a new page like this one for each new day. I'll make sure to change the title and update the "most recent posting" link on the home page each time (Tripod 2001).

This course started on Valentine's Day and one day before my trip to Kansas City for the Society for Range Management annual meetings. I had never had an instructional design class before, so I had no idea what to expect.

However, Richard (my supervisor) and another research associate (Steve) had requested that when I returned from KC that I begin to teach them how to run SPUR in the PC environment.

SPUR (Simulation of Production and Utilization on Rangeland) is the ecosystem simulation model that we are validating in the Texas Northern Rolling Plains.

Grandma Rocking

This approach did not work very well. I found that I had to sit at each of their PCs and walk them through every step. The webpage became a hindrance, rather than a help.

I have since abandoned this approach for now.

I am finding that taking these six week courses back to back with only one week in between is too stressful for me. I talked to my academic and financial advisors and have decided to take a 60-day leave of absence after the next course (EDTC 526).  If possible I will space the rest of my courses every 21-28 days apart.
